The picture (above) can be roughly dated because the Boys'
Grammar School can be seen in the background - opened in 1932 - and many
of the buildings around the sea front were destroyed during the Second
World War, so I would suggest a date in the mid 1930s. The ship leaving the harbour by the eastern entrance appears to be one of the train ferries. The Isle of Thanet is approaching the western entrance - this was blocked during the war to keep out enemy submarines and was not cleared for many years after the war. |
