Crossing the Channel - 1000 B.C. |
The discovery of this Bronze Age boat during the work on
the A20 extension at Townwall Street showed that Dover has been a port for
at least 3000 years. A Bronze Age cargo of scrap metal found in a dive to the east of the modern harbour led to the belief that there was a thriving trade across the channel at that time. The remains of the boat have been conserved and are on display in a specially-designed gallery in Dover Museum. |
