This view was taken from the Market Square around the early 1900s and shows Igglesden & Graves' Restaurant on the corner of Market Square and Church Street.

The picture above was taken around 1915.  The mill can be seen behind he cottage on the left - the river Dour flows under the road at this point.

This picture was taken in the 1920s.  At the sign of the elephant is the Fremlin's Ale & Stout Depot.  Next door is Zenith Motor Engineers.  A flag on the left advertises a dealer in cycles and baby carriages.

In 1925 Florence Igglesden was running a millinery at no. 79.  Was she related to Mr. Igglesden of Igglesden & Graves?

This picture was taken around 1955, when the site on the corner of Castle Street and Church Street had been demolished to make way for a new car showroom for Martin Walter Ltd, whose garage can be seen behind the building site.  The Granada cinema can be seen on the right.  The clock on the BP garage shows 3.45.  The registration of the car is YY1281 - was it yours?  The C&C van is delivering Club Orange to the cinema.

This is how Castle Street looks today - except that Courts furnishers has now gone and the British Heart Foundation has taken over the premises for a charity shop.
